The matinee "The Nobel Prizes 2023" is dedicated to the research of the youngest Nobel Prize winners. The 2023 Nobel Prizes honor scientists who have taken humanity a decisive step forward with their research. This fact is particularly evident in the Nobel Prize for Physiology/Medicine. Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman were honored for their research into mRNA, which laid the foundation for the successful development of one of the vaccination methods against COVID-19.

The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was also awarded to Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Alexei I. Ekimov. The discovery of quantum dots made LED technology possible, among other things, but also holds potential for new cancer therapies. Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L'Huillier received the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work in the field of ultrafast physics, which has potential applications in various areas such as medicine and electronics. Finally, Claudia Goldin, a researcher who provided valuable approaches to understanding gender-specific differences in the labor market, was honored with the prize for economics.
