StudentCard and MediCard
The StudentCard is your TUM student ID in the form of a multifunctional chip card or as a digital StudentCard, which can be downloaded in the TUM app.
Since the summer semester 2026, the MediCard for students at the TUM University Hospital is no longer being issued.
StudentCard
Please note: Students at the Straubing, Heilbronn, and Singapore campuses only receive the digital StudentCard in the TUM Campus App; physical StudentCards are no longer issued there. The validation of existing StudentCards is also no longer available at these three locations.

If you’d like to use the student cafeterias in Munich and Garching, you can download the digital cafeteria pass from „Mensa Wallet” in your TUMonline account. You can use it to verify your student status at almost all Studierendenwerk checkout counters and pay with a debit card or digital wallet.
How do I get the StudentCard?
Physical StudentCard
Students at the Munich, Garching, and Weihenstephan campuses:
- Your StudentCard will be sent to you automatically after successful enrollment if you have entered a German correspondence address in TUMonline. A personal pick-up is currently not possible.
- Please note: If you have already been enrolled for more than one month but have not yet received a StudentCard, please contact the student information by e-mail with the exact subject “Neuausstellung StudentCard”. Please state your TUM student number.
The status information in the “my TUM Card” application in TUMonline is unfortunately not displayed correctly, you can ignore it.
Pilot phase for the “Digital Student Card” at the Straubing, Heilbronn, and Singapore campuses:
- Since summer semester of 2026, students in Straubing, Heilbronn and Singapore only receive the digital StudentCard in the TUM Campus App as part of a pilot phase. Information on how to obtain it can be found below. The validation of existing StudentCards is no longer available at these three locations.
Students at the Heilbronn campus will continue to receive the Bildungscampus Card, which covers all services at this location.
Students at the Straubing campus can also use the digital StudentCard in the TUM Campus App at the library – the card readers have been updated. - Analog alternatives to the digital StudentCard:
- Students can download their current enrollment certificate from TUMonline, print it out, and present it along with a valid ID card.
- In exams where smartphones are not permitted, your ID card will be cross-checked against the list of exam registrations. This system is standardized across all locations, serves as proof of identity during exams, and will be formally incorporated into the next revision of the exam regulations.

Students can use library services with their TUM user ID in conjunction with the ID card.
- The printed certificate of enrollment, in conjunction with the ID card, is also recognized during official checks (e.g., on trains, or in museums). If you encounter any difficulties, please feel free to refer to TUM or write an e-mail to studium@tum.de.
Special cases
- If you are enrolled in a joint degree program (e.g. Bioinformatics, Theoretical Physics), please contact the student information by e-mail with the exact subject “Neuausstellung StudentCard”. Please state your TUM student number.
- If you are enrolled as a guest auditor, you are not eligible for a StudentCard.
Digital StudentCard
The TUM Campus App works on all common smartphones and can be downloaded here:
After signing in with a TUM user ID, you can find the digital StudentCard at the top right under the card icon. It is available from the first day of the semester in which you are enrolled.
Do you still have your old StudentCard?
If you change your degree program or re-enroll at TUM, a new StudentCard will not be printed automatically. Your previous StudentCard can simply be reactivated at any validation station.
The current degree program and the new period of validity will be printed on the card.
Since the summer semester of 2026, students at the Straubing, Heilbronn, and Singapore campuses have only had access to the digital StudentCard.
Do you no longer have your old StudentCard?
If you no longer have your old StudentCard or if it is defective, please contact the student information by e-mail with the exact subject “Neuausstellung StudentCard”. Please state your TUM student number.
If you need a new photo for the StudentCard, please send it as an attached jpg image file.
The TUM Global & Alumni Office will send you all information directly by e-mail and tell you the time and place of collection. If you have not received the e-mail, please contact the Global & Alumni Office directly.
Personal collection at the Service Desk is not possible.
- Even if you do not currently have a StudentCard, you can take part in exams. Please bring a printed proof of enrollment and an official ID card or passport.
- If your card is defective, please present it at the Service Desk.
- If the StudentCard is lost or defective due to improper handling or negligent damage, a fee of 30 euros will be charged for reissuing. The fee must be paid at the Service Desk (card payment only).
- If your StudentCard has been stolen and you can present a report of the theft to the police the reissue is free of charge.
- In case of loss, theft, or defect, the StudentCard will be reissued at the Service Desk by the Admissions and Enrollment department. Please note the opening hours.
- If you want someone else to collect your StudentCard, they must present a valid power of attorney and a valid ID.
- If you do not live in the greater Munich area and cannot collect the StudentCard in person, it is exceptionally possible to send it by post. In this case, please contact the student information by e-mail with the exct subject “Neuausstellung StudentCard”. Please state your TUM student number.
- Blocking the StudentCard:
- If you have lost your StudentCard or it has been stolen, please immediately contact the student information by e-mail with the exact subject “Sperrung StudentCard”. Please state your TUM student number.
- To have the credit chip blocked, please visit an Info Point of the Munich Student Union [German]. When a new StudentCard is issued, you will receive a transfer form with which you can have the credit of your old StudentCard transferred to the new one there.
The validity of the StudentCard expires automatically upon disenrollment. After completing your studies, you must hand it in at the Admissions and Enrollment department at the Service Desk.
