Have a look at the BMBF’s general FAQ page about the Deutschlandstipendium.
On our application site you can find all the information about the application process, such as what information and documents are required from you.
If you are enrolled at TUM and have a TUM matriculation number.
You can also apply for the Deutschlandstipendium as soon as you have submitted your application for a degree program at TUM and have received an applicant number.
You cannot be admitted to the program if you have exceeded the standard period of study, are already receiving performance-based funding of 30€ per month or more, or are pursuing a doctorate at TUM.
Exchange students who are enrolled at their home university and are completing their stay abroad at TUM are also excluded.
Yes. The prerequisite is admittance or enrollment at the TUM. The basis for selection is the grade of your most recent degree.
If you receive an offer of a Deutschlandstipendium from us and wish to accept it, you must have a German residence and have a German bank account. If you cannot provide proof of these requirements by October 15, 2021, the offer of funding will expire. Therefore, please take care of these requirements and, if necessary, a visa as early as possible.
All TUM students may apply as long as they do not exceed the official standard period of their studies.
Individual standard period of study:
Deutschlandstipendium is intended to provide support also in times of the pandemic so that scholars successfully complete their studies. You can also apply if your are above the original standard period of study due to the pandemic. Please note that in this case you must fill in a corresponding field in the application form in which you provide a short statement. Here you must briefly explain the reasons for which you are exceeding the original standard period of study.
The scholarship ends at the end of the month in which the university education is successfully completed. This is the case when the overall result of the successful completion of studies is announced, but no later than the end of the second month after the month in which the last part of the examination was taken.
Please inform us in good time in advance of the planned end of studies. IMPORTANT: Bachelor's and Master's degrees are considered separate courses of study! Therefore, the scholarship ends with the completion of the last exam in the Bachelor!
Deutschlandstipendium is tax-free and will, according to §5 section. 3 StipG , not be calculated as income with social benefits.
Consequently, Deutschlandstipendium does not represent any kind of paid compensation for a particular occupation and is – as are all other comparable scholarships as well – not to be considered as pay.
No, there are no direct obligations associated to the awarding of the scholarship. There is an official certificate award ceremony every year, at which some sponsors are also present. Attendance at this event is expressly welcomed in order to promote exchange between business and the university and to ensure expansion of the scholarship program.
Due to the fact that the funding exceeds the monthly 30€ disqualification amount and is performance-related, is this considered a disqualification criteria. Nevertheless, some foundations agree to forgo payments, for the duration of the scholarship support – to be sure to further accord in a non-material manner. In this case, funding through Deutschlandstipendium is possible.
The scholarship will continue to be paid if one is absent due to a study-related stay abroad. Provided that one stays abroad, for the duration of the sponsorship. This applies independent of a potential leave of absence from the university who has awarded the scholarship. If one studies abroad via the ERASMUS Program, Deutschlandstipendium will also continue to be paid, even when one simultaneously receives a student mobility allowance from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst –DAAD).
No, as long as you are fully enrolled at TUM, Deutschlandstipendium will continue to be paid during an ERASMUS stay – it will by the way also be paid during study-related internships abroad; see BMBF-FAQ.
Due to the fact that the DAAD carries out various means of support, these are to be reviewed individually. The following counts for guidance: Mobility allowance is not in competition with Deutschlandstipendium. Should support for living nevertheless exist, and amount to or exceed the 30 Euros per month, then Deutschlandstipendium cannot be remitted during this period.
Basically, a “suspension of payment” is only possible for scholarships that are already in effect. In these cases, payment after the DAAD-funding can be resumed until the end of the authorized period, provided that one continues one’s previously pursued study program at the TUM.
